One of the stupidest people I haven't actually met...

It's rare that I'll ever do something like this but this is a special case. The background: I have a few of the official Obama 'Hope' posters and decided to sell one on Craigslist for the low price of $25. This is the dialogue that ensued. Please, email this idiot and try to talk some sense into him..please! His name is John Howard and his email address is- johnboysocean@comcast.net

JH- excellent starter log for the fire place. how do you like this change? were you one of the dumb asses that screwed up this country and put in deep debt. no way out

Me- (that kind of set me off and he caught me at a good time)
Oh, so you’re one of the dumb fucks that thought McCain would actually change the course of anything and thought that Palin was a good choice? Or one of the idiots thinks the war with Iraq was the right thing to do? Or maybe just some political pundit that thinks anybody could make huge changes in just 4 months?

No I got it...you think he’ll take away your guns that you think you need to protect yourself from ‘the terrorists’ and black people. No, wait...you think that change would happen without spending money. Or, you think that the money being spent even exists. Oh....it’s because you’re one of the 5% that will have their taxes increased and you think that’s unfair.? Ok, I got it!...you think that years of neo-cons dumping trillions of dollars into military and war and taking funding away from everything else was a better option. Am I getting close?

Do you actually know how and why the American government is so in debt? Do you even know the real figure....hint, it’s WAAAAY more than what Obama says it is...if it were only the 13tril he claims we’d be ok. Do you know who was in office when things really started to go south for the American economy and our whole monetary system? (hint: he wasn’t a democrat and neither of us were alive yet unless you’re over 96) Do you think it’s democrats that have corrupted our healthcare system? Insurance system? Education? Big businesses? Credit? I think we both know who’s created the really big problems that we all suffer from.

I think you’re forgetting 2 main things here...
1) Barack Obama was not in office when all these problems were created and for a president who has only been on the job for 4 months, he is doing a good job (of course he could be doing things differently or better- things can ALWAYS be done better)
2) the president does not have the power or control that people think he does...our economy, healthcare and education are fucked because of a system that was created over decades by greedy and corrupt people who happen to mostly be conservative republicans. (That is the truth)

You’re one of the ‘smart people’ though so I’m sure you know everything and would do a much better job than the president is doing.

If you need a good starter log, you know where to find one ;)

JH- could you possible be the stupidest asshole out there? if you can,,,, think about the question i just asked.your democrats always over tax the working people. what is wrong with health care? surley you could go to any city and see how niggers get preagent, that way they steal money from working people. lay on their back have a baby, get money. if you worked for a living you would not like that either. see they get hand out health care. you bet i am protecting my house and family. if we got rid of all muslims and democrats with military arms. then we could be safe. and america could sleep easy at night. hopefully you know someone that can talk and explain all of this to you. i know if is alot but i'm sure you do not work so you have time. wake up spook

Me-- Thanks! You’ve just proven how truly ignorant you are in two ways!
1) you cannot seem to compose a proper sentence
2) your views on race and religion belong somewhere back in time, not the 21st century.

“Your kind” and your stale views are the real reasons America has not been able to progress. You are part of the problem with this country. Sorry to break the news to you. Maybe it’s not entirely your fault though...are you by any chance a child of incest? You’re probably just too stupid to know any better...poor thing :(

Be careful out there, you might get ‘spooked’!

And the winner is.... (UPDATE)

David Traver, the guy on the right, is the winner of the 2009 World Beard and Moustache championships. In case you missed it this year in Alaska, you can travel to Norway for the 2011 World Beard and Moustache competition.

You can read all about the glory >>here<<

UPDATE- here's the parade footage!

Zero.1 Vinyl/CD player

This is a concept design by Francesco Cugusi & Roberto Strippoli that combines a cd player and turntable into one. What's really cool though is that after the system plays the record once it would learn it and you could skip through the tracks like on a CD. Would it really work? probably. Will it actually get produced? probably not :( Still a good enough idea for me to put on here though.

Abel Raises Cain

I just saw this a couple of weeks back and must say it's one of the best documentaries produced in the last couple of years. Alan Abel has devoted his life passionately to what he believed in and was/is an true unsung hero for modern times and deserves some recognition. On the surface his tricks are funny and clever but his true genius is in his reasoning and execution of his ideas.

Ball-Nogues

I really like this firms' work. Their use and understanding of materials & technology to make temporary installations that leave a long-lasting impression on patrons is very impressive. The way they transform a space with form, color and light & shadow is brilliant.

See more of their work at their site- Ball-Nogues Studio

The Soviet Story

Powerful documentary/TV special from Europe investigating the rise of the Soviet Union and communism in the first part of the 20th century.

Is this what happened breakin'?

My jaw dropped when I saw this! Possibly the worst club track I've ever heard with some pretty good dancin'. I wonder if they were actually dancing to this crap? If so, it could explain the lack of finesse and timing.

You need this... (download)

True story:
About a month ago I was in the zone doing some design work and the mix playing really caught my attention. I look at my iTunes and it turns out it's one of my own mixes! Back when people actually bought and sold mix CDs I sold a bunch of these. Now in this new age of piracy and free music I want you to have it. Actually, I'll be posting all of my older mixes up here for free downloads soon..for now you can listen to some of them in the player on the main page.

Make sure to click on that big 'download' button to get more free mixes from me- The Record Player

WHOA!!! GET THIS ALBUM! The new Sa-Ra album coming out June 9th is crazy....definitely one of the best albums that will come out this year. What is it with Ubiquity records and constantly putting out quality music!? Keep it up! And if you haven't got it already, pick up that Abundance album while you're at it (listen here).

More too much free time

These two videos are ridiculous. How in the hell to people find this much spare time to do these amazing things?!

Listen up- Reality TV feat. Black Thought

WHOA! I just got this a couple days ago....and I finally got my FTP issue resolved so I can do these posts again. Aren't you lucky? This is from the upcoming J.Dilla album 'Jay Stay Paid' coming out June 2nd. GET IT! I also included the song that first used this beat by Dilla's homie Ta'Raach.

Finally: A Paper Notebook

This is pretty questionable. Wouldn't a Windows notebook be made of glass versus an Apple that could be made of paper from...you guessed it!..Apple trees.? As a company Apple has become equivalent to Microsoft on some levels but they still make a superior OS and fancy looking machines. This is damn good animation though.

Wood + metal bike

Not much to say here. Just a really nice bike that uses wood instead of metal for some of the tubing. The joints are metal though.
This was made by Arndt Menke.

I am familiar with the bamboo bike by BME and the new Bamboo bike Ross Lovegrove designed for Biomega...and the wooden bike at the Camper store in SoHo...and several other wooden (even cardboard) bikes. None of those look this good though.

Manufactured Landscapes

WHOA!! I Just finally got around to watching Manufactured Landscapes last week. This was one of the better documentaries I've seen recently (I watch a lot of documentaries). The imagery is grotesquely beautiful and stunning. This one does not get into the political rhetoric that you may expect from these images. Instead it is just the film version of the images with a little bit of dialog and mostly just following famed photographer Edward Burtynsky to the different locations. He humbly points out that he is in no place to pass any judgement on these industries that humans have created since he is very much a part of these systems and relies on them. What he does point out is the effects that the manufacturing of products and waste management has on cultures and societies.

His work has been shown all over the world and he was even invited to speak at the TED conference.

waaaay too much spare time

I've posted other examples of people with way too much spare time, Here and Here and here's another to add to this frightening trend.

Musical explosion

Sorry, that was a very misleading title for an entry. Music is an intangible abstraction based on mathematics and physics as a result of vibrations. The term 'music' really doesn't even have any true meaning since it is subjective to opinion. However, these images are 'exploded' views of music making devices.

These images are part of a graphic set for a group called Go Audio by UK-based design firm with a very impressive portfolio and client list, Zip Design. I'm loving these images because they're music related plus, the designer in me, loves to see what goes into making an object and thinking about the manufacturing process. (I'm a nerd for stuff like that)

I'll Always Love My Mama (live)

Recorded last year..The Intruders still got it. Too bad there's no band there :/

Weird video of the week

Hands down this wins for this weeks' weird video. Not because everything is made of Legos (that's pretty average these days). No, it's because they moved all the trees to set up their rave! You can't just move trees that easily...it's a difficult and time consuming process. Also, the cops have a medieval cannon!?

Digital 45s!!?? Yes please!

I'm broke but I couldn't resist buying a few of these limited edition Serato 45s co-released by Jazzman and Serato. Of course, Jazzman had to give you a bonus nugget too- on the flip is the ultra rare version of "What's Going On" by Mr. Clean. The purist in me would have preferred the large center hole but these are definitely convenient.

Keiichi Tanaami

Many of us have probably seen this guy's work but didn't know the mind behind the madness. The man is Keiichi Tanaami. One of Japan's most famous modern artists. He's had tons of shows and has been one of the most prized and celebrated artists of the 20th century. He worked with Andy Warhol in the '60s and has done his fair share of drugs, which may explain some of his work.

Wu-Tang covers remixed

This is a really clever project by designer Logan Waters. Wu-Tang Clan and the solo projects have become modern classics in much the same way as popular jazz did in the '50s & '60s. So, it makes sense to pay homage to the Wu in a way that reflects on the timelessness of their music. Ok, that was a bunch of designer b.s. talk. On the real though, they're dope and it's a good idea. nuff said...

Just Ain't Gonna Work Out (sorry baby)

I've been feeling this song for a minute now. It's a video for Stone Throw Records artist, Mayer Hawthorne I still need to get the record though :/ This video is dope and I'm especially feeling how the actual record is the object of attention and desire here. It's subliminally telling me/you that the music is more important than the video and we need to love it and buy the cool heart-shaped vinyl- which is a throwback to Bobby Caldwell's 1978 classic, "What You Won't Do For Love", that was also pressed on clear red vinyl and cut into a heart shape.

Check out more Mayer Hawthorne music and buy it >HERE<

Money to burn

I love/hate this art by Scott Campbell! The use of laser cutting and topographical layering to create a form is intriguing. And, I can understand using currency as a medium to display that it is either void of real value or can be elevated in value with an artists intervention. For these pieces though, the use of money just doesn't translate the message of the piece as well as another material might. It's like the artist is telling me that he used money just because he has a lot of it and we don't...which is what I hate. I hate that he has enough money to burn/laser cut and I do not. I want to burn stacks of $1 bills too! I know it will piss off the strippers, but who cares!?

This artist does do some really nice stuff though. Check out his site- ScottCampbellTatoo.com
