We're Through

If you didn't get it, you NEED the James Pants album in your life!! I'm a sucker for mid-eighties boogie/disco and for smooth r&b and tough electro. This album's got it all and then some. He's also an interesting DJ...if you get the chance to hear one of his mixes, pay attention.

Quantic (WIll Holland)

Chances are you've heard at least something either produced or remixed by Quantic at some point in the last 8 years even if you have no idea who he is. This is because the man behind Quantic, WIll Holland, is nothing short of a musical prodigy in the modern sense of the word. He is one of the most prolific people in modern music and covers a wide range of styles from raw funk, house, trip-hop, broken beat, reggae, hip-hop, latin, jazz and afro beat. Since 2001 he has released over 20 albums and singles, has done dozens of remixes and still finds time to DJ and even did a rare funk compilation a few years back. To put it bluntly, he is nothing short of amazing and has been a major force in the underground music scene since releasing his first album 'The 5th Exotic' on Tru Thoughts.

HiDrone building concept

I've seen a ton of cool architecture lately but this is by far the best concept I've seen I quite some time. Sure, I've seen cooler looking spaces but very few buildings are truly adaptable and even less actually move and can be reconfigured. This concept by a group of MIT researchers (SPARC) are proposing to do just that- a building with moving parts that can evolve and adapt to create new environments and new user experiences. The part that really takes this to the next level is the fact that they've actually investigated the real possibility of this and how it would be engineered. Apparently a panel of jurors felt the same way and awarded this a 1st place prize in the London Architecture Gallery International Competition 2008.

Koshino House scale model

There is still no word on if this is real or not. The pictures look very convincing however, the company does not seem to be selling it anywhere and the picture credit is for some Belgian architecture blog. Still a great idea and I want it. Tadao Ando is one of the few architects I know more than a little bit about and I really admire his work. The Koshino House is an icon in the world of architecture and Tadao Ando is perhaps the most prolific and most decorated architect alive today.

Day N' Nite

I've been feeling this track for a minute now...glad to see a dope video for it.

Shack Up (UPDATE: w/ Don't You Worry About A Thing)

I love the original classic by Banbarra but there's something about A Certain Ratio covering this song that makes it edgier. Maybe it's the punky guitars, the British accents or even the slightly faster tempo? I recommend owning both since the work for different types of moods. They were one of the main groups from this scene..other groups of the 'punk/funk' scene include ESG, Pigbag, Gang Of Four, The Dance, Defunkt and Liquid Liquid amongst many others.

I should have posted this too...here ya go...

Synthesize

Really dope video from a live visual performance by Simian Mobile Disco, directed by Kate Moross & Alex Sushon. Simple and effective. If you like flashing lights and circles, this is the perfect video for you.

VV Brown

I got a remix of "Crying Blood" about 6 months ago but didn't really search what else she had out. I was sleeping!!! Now, I'm not crazy about her music but it's different and works in a pop sound kinda way. I'm really feeling her videos though and it definitely helps that she's HOT...seriously beautiful...damn! Anyway, here's a new video which is just in time for Valentine's Day. Enjoy!

Weird Video of the Week pt.2

Ok, maybe this one is more weird:

Yeah, definitely more bizarre!

Weird Video of the Week UPDATED

I haven't seen many videos this week but this is a weird one I saw here. It's the video for "Nothing to Worry About" by Peter Bjorn & John. I've been feeling this song for a couple months now but would never have expected a video like this. I know it seems odd to see middle-aged Japanese biker gangs stuck in a scene from West Side Story and Beat Street at the same time. They're in Japan though and stuff like this actually happens all the time there. Notice that the people walking by don't even look at them!! I'm having a craving for ramen now! *sigh*

Oh, I found the embedable video so here ya go!

She One

Really nice work by UK-based artist She One. She just came out with a limited edition spray paint of only 500 cans being produced by Montana. Kinda weird to buy 'limited edition' spray paint but for only $25 you can own a piece by a great artist.

I will not be posting much for a while

I'll try to keep this short. Today my computer was destroyed thanks to a ignorant/retarded/blind/shithead/asshole driver of a large truck. This waste-of-sperm actually passed me then proceeded to almost crush me between his truck and a parked PGW truck. Yeah, leave it to PGW to be at the right place at the wrong time! (oh man...don't get us Philly folk started on PGW!!!!) So, in this fiasco I was forced to get so close to the PGW truck that the edge of my bag hit the truck and I had to push my right elbow into the PGW truck to keep from falling. Fortunately I was going fast enough to not get crushed and fortunately I'm one of those bikers that knows how to react when faced with sudden danger. And, luckily the force cause the shoulder strap on my bag to break which allowed me to keep moving. If my bag didn't break I would have been in really bad shape.

Anyway....I am not physically hurt but perhaps i'm in a worse position than if I broke a leg or something. At least with a broken leg I could still make money and do my homework. (remember, I took a dive into a design degree) So, now I'm completely stuck. I am in the process of working a few different angles to raise enough to get another computer. In addition to dressing up like a bum and begging for change, I am asking you all for some support. I promise when I get another computer I will record a new mix and post it up for your downloading pleasure. So, I'm not really asking for donations...it's an investment on your future. Thank you!

TV On The Radio

You need to buy their albums! Great music.

Nice & simple graphic design for a jazz classic.

Good use of time

I always knew there was a better way to spin a desk chair. I just couldn't figure out how. Thankfully somebody bored at work did.

On The Run

CLASSIC by Kool G Rap & DJ Polo...one of my favorites. Kool G Rap really brought the streets to the speakers. Unlike today's so-called thug rappers who all rhyme in the same style about the same stuff and water it down for mass appeal and even try r&b singing, G Rap stuck to his guns figuratively and literally and is one of the most respected MC's in Hip-Hop's history. Don't Sleep.
